Tillie Szewczuk

Vestal: Age 100, formerly of Elmira Heights, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Vestal Park Nursing Center, Vestal NY. A daughter of Anthony and Sophia (Draggon) Tyra, Tillie was born April 29, 1914. She is predeceased by her husbands, Jack Pickrell and Steve Szewczuk, sisters, Dorothy Clemens, Mary Bonady, Anna Cunningham, Helen Warren, Julia Lovejoy, Martha Husick and Elvie Tingstad and brothers, Steve and Peter Tyra. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Prior to moving to the nursing home, Tillie lived with and was well cared for by her nephew Thomas Warren and his wife Pat in Binghamton, for several years. Tom is the son of Tillie's twin sister, Helen. A wonderful cook Tillie's specialties were perogies and halupki. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, June 6, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A funeral service will follow. Interment will then take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
