Obituary

Thomas E. Reidy, aged 90, died peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his beloved family. He is preceded in death by his wife Clare and their grandson John Reidy.

Tom was born in Elmira, NY, the son of Edward and Mary Donahue Reidy. He is also predeceased by sisters Mary Elizabeth (Bill Rauch), Jean (Jimmy Sullivan), Kathleen (John Wilmot), and his brother in law Joseph (Nancy) Reidy.

Tom is survived by his children, Margaret (Ira Handler), Thomas Jr. (Anne Marie), Kathleen Galvin (Michael), Patrick, Edward (Rita Ciccariello), and Daniel (Wendy Taylor); grandchildren Kelly (Ryan), Ginevra (Donovan), Molly (Derek), Emily (Conor), Jessica (David), Kassidy (John), Hannah (Dexter), Phoebe (Will), Elizabeth (Zachary), Isobel (Diego), Ellen (Neil), Amanda (Kyle), Patrick (Susan), Grace and Jack; and great-grandchildren Moira, Ezra, Gael, Luca, Reid, Rory, Rose, Ty, Cullen, Hadley, Jack, Lucy, Imogen, Mairead, Ruth, Clare, and Sally. He is also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Tom received a bachelor’s degree from Canisius College in 1957. After graduation, he worked for IBM while serving as a captain in the Army Reserve. Tom pivoted careers in 1965 by accepting a teaching position at Horseheads High School. In 1972, he began his tenure at Corning Community College, where he served as chair of the Accounting Department. While teaching in Corning, Tom earned a Master of Science in Accountancy from SUNY Binghamton. He retired from teaching in 1997.

Tom was a lifelong golfer. He started caddying at Elmira Country Club in 1947 and won the ECC Club Championship in 1976. Later, he became the executive director of the New York State Golf Association and in 2015 was inducted into the New York State Golf Hall of Fame. Tom coached CYO basketball for St. Patrick’s from 1965 until 1980 and his teams won many championships. His family and many friends in Elmira still refer to him as “Coach.”

A Mass of Christian Burial and a celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 10:30AM at St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira, NY.
