Thomas Daly

Age 84, of Elmira, passed away at Robert Packer Hospital on Sunday, April 1, 2018. Tom was born in Elmira, son of William R. and Mary McMahon Daly. He is predeceased by brother Gerald Daly, grandson Jasper Daly, and brother-in-law Daniel O'Shea. Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years Maureen O'Shea Daly; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas W., Jr. and Amy Winkles Daly of Corning NY with their daughters, Violet and Rose; Daniel P. and Maria Elena Daly of Portland OR with their daughter, Lindsey; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William F. and Mary Beth O'Shea of East Hampton MA, James F. and Cynthia O'Shea of Monroe NY, Alice P. Moré of New Jersey; along with several nieces and nephews. Tom was a U.S. Army veteran. He earned his undergraduate degree from Fordham University in New York City, a Master's Degree in History from Fordham University and a Master's Degree in Social Work from Boston College. Tom worked for Chemung County Child Protective Services for 10 years before taking a position as a Psychiatric Social Worker for the Elmira Psychiatric Center and the Office of the Aging. He was an Adjunct Professor of Human Services at Elmira College for 30 years while working with Chemung County and New York State. Tom and Maureen have been the owners of Ireland's Own for 40 years. An avid baseball fan, Tom was a Detroit Tiger fan from the age of 12. He was a long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church and a member of the John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Church on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Those wishing may remember Tom with a donation to St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira, NY 14901.
