"Ted" Age 95, passed away peacefully at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center on Friday, July 14, 2017. Prior to his short hospital stay Ted had been a resident at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the past 4 years. Ted was born in Elmira NY, the eldest son of Joseph and Bernice (Baker) Raniewicz. He was predeceased by his brothers Robert Sr. and Leonard Raniewicz; son-in-law Jeffrey D. Rosenberg. Ted is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Lillian Mitchell Raniewicz; son John H. "Jack" Raniewicz of Elmira; daughter Bonnie M. Raniewicz of Elmira; son Charles M. Raniewicz of Ithaca; granddaughters, Christina A. Faulkner of Syracuse and Jozlyn M. Faulkner of Spencer NY; sisters-in-law, Marian Mitchell of Warminster PA and Louise "Midge" Mitchell of Appalachian NY; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Ted was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving in the Pacific during WW II. Following in his father's footsteps Ted became a printer at the Star Gazette and retired in 1984 with over 40 years of service. The day after his retirement Ted immediately returned to work helping his daughter Bonnie with her new flower shop, Floral Fantasy, for another 25 plus years. He loved music and dancing and, along with Lillian, was a member of the Soaring Polka Association. They learned to polka at the White Eagles Club where Ted was a long time member. He was also a car enthusiast. Ted was a devout Catholic and a long time communicant of St. Casimir's Church. Ted took great pride in caring for his home and family. He was a caring and loving son, husband, father and grandfather. He was a devoted nephew to his special aunts Mary C. Baker, Eleanor Curvish and Martha Luz. Ted was a great role model, had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street Elmira, on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Casimir's Church. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
