Age 58, passed away at home, due to heart issues, on Saturday, August 7, 2021. Smitty was born in Elmira, a son of the late Richard E. "Dick" and Teresa Viselli Smithers. He is survived by the love of his life Nodja M. Coolbaugh. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, Michael and Patricia Smithers, Daniel and Reneé Smithers, Cheryl and Stephen Janeski, David and Mary Smithers all of Elmira; uncle, Louis Viselli of Las Vegas; Nodja's father, Arthur Coolbaugh Sr., with Carolyn Keller, of Elmira; Nodja's siblings, Susan Brantner of Horseheads and Arthur Coolbaugh Jr. of Elmira; nephews and nieces, Jim Rice, Stephen and Jason Janeski, Sarah (Aleks Makletsov) Smithers, Jennifer Smithers, Briana and Brittney Brantner; great nephew, Ryan Janeski; great niece, Gabby Janeski; canine pal, Ookami; several cousins and a host of good friends. Smitty enjoyed hunting, playing cards and a good round of golf, especially in tournaments with his brothers. He was in the bar business for 30 years. Smitty followed Danny Sandore from Danny's 1321, to W.H.F.N. in Southport and finally to the Hi-Bar on South Main St. He finished his career by working at Old Pioneer on South Main Street for several years. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 7:15 p.m. Burial will take place at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
