Stephen Costello

Age 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Steve was born in Elmira, son of the late Stephen A. and Mary (Rush) Costello. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Gloria Richardson Costello on February 6, 2018. Steve is survived by his children with their families, Stephen J. Costello, Jr. of Yorktown VA with his son Drew; Eileen M. and Scott Drew of Elmira with her children, Liza and Joseph Pariso; Thomas M. and Mary Lynn Costello of Horseheads with sons, Sean (Shelly Buchy) Costello and Joel Costello; Mary L. and Scott Worden of Vestal NY with sons, Matthew, Daniel and Christopher; Colleen A. and Larry Huffner of Elmira with daughter Emma; great grandchildren, Daniel, Gionni and Louie; sister and brother-in-law Mary Esther and John Hintz of Elmira; sister-in-law Marcia Sullivan of Horseheads; brother–in-law and sister-in-law Ronald and Jan Richardson of Oregon; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Steve was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He was a retired fireman with the Elmira Fire Department. Steve was known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. He was an AVID Boston Red Sox fan and would let you know it. Above all Steve was a loving brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of the Elmira Elks Lodge #62, the Msgr. John J. Lee Division of the A.O.H. and a lifelong communicant of St. Mary's Church. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Elmira at 12:00 noon. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. The family will provide flowers. Those wishing may remember Steve with a donation to a charity of one's choice. Officers and members of the ELMIRA ELKS LODGE #62 will meet at McInerny Funeral Home on Friday at 5:45 p.m. to conduct a Memorial Service for our departed brother Steve. Officers and members of the MSGR. JOHN J. LEE DIVISION OF THE A.O.H. will meet at McInerny Funeral Home of Friday at 6:00 p.m. to conduct a Memorial Service for our departed brother Steve.
