Scott Purdue

June 8, 1979 — January 15, 2017

Scott finally lost his battle with a very rare cancer on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at the age of 37, at home in Elmira Heights, NY. Told almost three years ago that nothing could be done, he proved them wrong. Always a fighter, Scott really surprised everyone at how hard he fought back. An Air Force brat, Scott was born June 8, 1979 at Wurtsmith AFB (Oscoda) MI. From the beginning he excelled at all things technical. He spent 12 years growing up at Ellsworth AFB (Rapid City) SD, before moving to Edwards AFB, CA where he graduated from Desert High School in 1998. Moving back to NY with his family he received a degree in Applied Technology from Corning Community College in 2000. Scott was predeceased by his grandparents, Fred and Isabel Purdue, Ralph Dennison and Lola and Roger Herrick, his uncle Dr. Gary Purdue, cousin Michael Dennison and niece Claire Elizabeth Walsh. He is survived by his parents Fred and Carol (Dennison) Purdue; sister and brother-in-law Stephanie and Andrew Walsh, and their sons, Jacob, Daniel, Aaron and Michael; aunts and uncles, Keith (Deb) Purdue, Christine (David) Stevens, Connie (Mike) Breed, Laurel Purdue, Mike (Rosemary) Dennison, Julie (Steve Lambe) Baldwin; along with many cousins. A very special thanks to the truly wonderful nurses at Falck Cancer Center, especially Robin, Mary, and Courtney, and the dedicated folks at the ER Department of Arnot Ogden who came to know Scott by name; Dr. Roberto Mauri, PA Stephanie Busch, Dr. Raj Gulati of Arnot Ogden and Dr. Richard Dunne of Wilmot Cancer Center in Rochester. Scott was truly one of a kind. Computers were his expertise and he could build anything and everything that was electronic. He loved to cook, he had a green thumb, and plants and small animals were his passion. Scott could build whatever he could dream up and he loved to argue his point of view with whoever would take him on. His dad often lost the arguments. Scott will be dearly missed by all who truly knew him. His wishes were that there would be no services. Scott has many fond memories of camping and fishing at Roubaix Lake in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and his ashes will be scattered there at a later date. Donations in Scott's name may be made to the Chemung County SPCA, Route 352, Elmira NY 14903.
