Age 54, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, June 21, 2023. Born in the town of Urbana on November 6, 1968, Scott was the son of the late Quentin and Rose Marie (Jacoby) McDaniels. Scott lived most of his life in the Elmira area, where he grew to be an incredibly social person who loved people and loved his city. Many considered him to be somewhat of a local historian as he delighted in telling stories of all he had experienced in Elmira. You could hardly go anywhere in the city without someone knowing and loving Scott. Scott took pride in being one of the original members of Social Connection and spent over 30 years as an active member where he made countless lasting friendships. Elmira Discipleship Ministries was another organization Scott was dedicated to, in which he relished in Testimony Tuesday nights and the annual Love Your City Missions event.
Scott was a true artist, not just in the work that he put on paper and canvas, but in how he viewed the world. He had a pure childlike faith in Christ and desired all could experience God’s love and beauty. Scott loved landscapes and water and could see color and design in everything, from the waves in the river, to the shadows cast by trees. Scott's visions made perfect paintings, which he typically gifted to others almost immediately after their completion because the only thing greater than his talent was his love.
Scott is survived by a multitude of friends who have become family, and they will miss his joyful laughter and big bear hugs.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Scott at Eldridge Park's Corporate Pavilion on Friday, July 13 at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Social Connection of Elmira or purchase Scott’s artwork at https://33222d.myshopify.com/, all profit goes to Social Connection.
