Sandra L. Lorden

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra L. Lorden, who departed this life on August 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and close friends, at the age of 82. She was a resident at Seneca View Nursing Home in Montour Falls, NY for the last four years. Born on September 20, 1943, in Sayre, Pennsylvania, she was the beloved daughter of William L. and Nora E. (Naglee) Johnston. Sandy was an LPN at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY for many years and then became a devoted homemaker. Her greatest passion was caring for her family and creating a warm and loving environment for all who entered her home.

Sandy was predeceased by her cherished husband, Robert E. Lorden, and their son, Stephen W. Lorden. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, forever cherished by her loving daughters, Margaret A. Lorden of Elmira, Susan M. and Richard Henley of Pine City, their children: Meghan (Dean Bassett) Henley, Jordan (Yvonne Basilion) Henley, and great-granddaughter, Scarlett Noel Henley; her son, Robert D. Lorden and his wife Kara of Elmira, their children: Maddie, Brooklyn, Audrey, Tessa, Avery, Roman, Mackenzie, Hadley, and Taj. She is also survived by her brother, William E. Johnston, and his wife Rena, of Avon, CT, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Sandy's devotion extended beyond her immediate family. She embraced her children's friends as her own and offered love and support to those who were fortunate enough to know her. A passionate baker and a talented crafter, she found immense joy in creating beauty and comfort within her home. Furthermore, Sandy was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, and she loved attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting and school events.

Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Prayer Service at McInerny's at 11:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial that will take place at 12:30pm on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Pl, Elmira. The Mass will be live streamed by the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish YouTube channel; a link will be provided here when available. Interment will take place at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandy's memory to the Schuyler County SPCA or the Tanglewood Nature Center.

Sandy will be remembered as a pillar of love, a source of unwavering support, and an embodiment of compassion. Her spirit will continue to live the hearts of all who were fortunate to call her family and friend. May She Rest in Eternal Peace.
