Age 96, passed away peacefully at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center on Sunday, October 15, 2017. Roy was born in Cortland NY, son of Roy W. and Ruth Fuller Palmer. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years Madeline Stoquert Palmer; brothers, Donald and Robert Palmer; sisters, Helen Palmer and Betty Phillips. Roy is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Richard W. and Judith Palmer of Schaghticoke NY, Thomas E. and Jill Palmer of Corning, Alan N. Palmer of Elmira, John S. and Cheryl Palmer of Elmira; sister-in-law Ella May Palmer of Elmira; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Roy was raised in Elmira and was a 1939 graduate of Southside High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Europe during WW II. Roy worked for Remington Rand for many years and he later retired from Kennedy Valve. He was a long-time volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. After the death of his wife Madeline, Roy spent many years as a volunteer with the Arnot Ogden Medical Center Auxiliary. He was also active in the churches he attended: First Baptist Church, Cortland, First Baptist Church, Elmira and the United Baptist Church, Elmira. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. A private burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
