Romeo Moffe

March 6, 1927 — January 31, 2019

Age 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving children on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Romeo was born and raised in Elmira, a son of Nicholas and Madeline (Malone) Moffe. He is predeceased by his wife Ann Carroll Moffe, son Michael J. Moffe, brothers: Thomas, Salvatore, George, and John Moffe and sisters: Antoinette Sgromolo, Mary Christopher, Josephine Capece and Amelia Harris. Romeo is survived by his children and their spouses: Gary and Diane Moffe of Elmira, Edward P. “Buddy” and Roseanne Moffe of Geneva NY, Dr. Thomas C. and Ana Moffe of Springfield MO, Stephen N. Moffe (Anne Kautzky) of Pagosa Springs CO, J. Daniel Moffe (Preciosa Lanier) of Wake Forest NC and Carroll Ann and James Lynch of Elmira; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother Ralph Moffe of Horseheads; sister-in-law Caroline Moffe of Elmira; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Romeo was a US Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He worked as a pressman for the Star Gazette for forty-seven years. Romeo was an avid hiker that led him to co-chair and help plan the original Tanglewood Nature Preserve located on West Hill Road. His many hobbies included badminton, making pizzas and spaghetti, apple picking, and playing cards. In his later years Romeo was a resident of Woodbrook Assisted Living Facility where he enjoyed walking the trails. Special thanks to Laurie Sweeney and the Woodbrook staff for their love and care of Romeo and to the staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility, the fifth floor aides and nurses for their love and dedication to Romeo’s care. You are all truly appreciated. There will be no prior calling hours. Immediate and extended family are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Romeo’s Mass of Christian Burial, will follow at 1:00 p.m., St. Patrick’s Church, Elmira. All are invited. Interment with committal prayers and military honors will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Romeo with a donation to The Woodbrook Foundation, 1250 Maple Avenue, Elmira NY 14904.
