IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roberta "Bert"
VanGorden Simons
March 30, 2026
Roberta "Bert" VanGorden Simons
Age 93, passed away peacefully at the Bradford Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington PA on Monday, March 30, 2026. Roberta was born on April 14, 1932, in Academy Corners, PA, daughter of Robert and Stella VanGorden. She was predeceased by her newborn daughter Anne Marie Simons in 1962, and husband DeForest "Si" Simons on December 18, 2019.
"Bert", "Grammy", or "Gram" as she was known, is survived by son and daughter-in-law Michael and Audie Simons of Millerton PA; son Richard Simons of Hector NY with Patricia Sandore; daughter-in-law Karen Simons of Elmira NY; grandchildren Sam Somostrada with Stacia Kelsey, Alex (Ann) Conrad, Nick Simons with Irene Lin, Christopher (Jessica) Simons, Adam (Tessa) Simons, and Gregory (Santina) Simons; great grandchildren Elise and Andrew Conrad, Lucy and Benjamin Simons, Max, Dean, and Molly Simons, Harrison (Bo) and Eleanor Simons; sister and brother-in-law Alberta and Miguel Quintana of San Diego CA, sister-in-law Joyce Heffner, several nieces (including special niece Roxann) and nephews.
Bert graduated from Elkland, PA High School in 1950 and married the love of her life, Si, on November 23, 1950. Her life's vocation was a stay-at-home wife and mom - jobs she put all her energy and love into, with all her heart. She dedicated her life to being the best possible wife and mother that she could be. A humble person by nature, her pride came from seeing her family's happiness. Her favorite things in life were time spent with family and her many friends in Millerton, but most of all, time spent with her beloved husband Si. An important part of her legacy is the thankfulness her two sons have for a great childhood, growing up under their parents' love in Millerton. Her legacy will live on through her sons, grandsons, and great-grandchildren. The family is at peace knowing that she is now once again by her Si's side, with her daughter in her arms.
A private family burial next to her husband will take place at Millerton Cemetery.
Those wishing may remember Bert with a donation to Millerton United Methodist Church in Millerton, PA 16936, or the Alzheimer's Association P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011 or follow the following link Alzheimers Association.
