Age 68 of Binghamton, NY and Sarasota, FL passed away Thursday, November 5, 2015 in Binghamton. Robert "Bob" was born April 14, 1947 in Elmira, NY, the son of Dorothy and Raymond Fassett. He was predeceased by his parents, and leaves behind his sister Beverly Fassett of Binghamton, NY, sister and brother-in-law Joanne and David Dalrymple of Elmira, nephews, Henry Dalrymple and Matthew Dalrymple, and many, many dear friends. Bob was raised in Elmira and graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1965. He proudly served in the U S Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked for many years in Sarasota as a manager at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, where he developed a wonderful network of friends. Bob loved sports car racing. He loved the cats he rescued. Bob was extremely well read and was a great conversationalist. He easily made friends and maintained a positive outlook. Bob had a special gift for making friends no matter where he was; he was a friend to everyone and everyone loved "Bobby." He received a heart transplant in 1998 and his family and friends are so very grateful for the extra wonderful years they had with him. The family would like to express appreciation for the care he received from Dr. Debbie Rinde-Hoffman, the transplant team at Tampa General Hospital, the team at Florida Cancer Institute; as well as Dr. Colleen Crandell, the staff at Wound Care and PICU at Lourdes Hospital, and especially for the support and love he received from his many friends in Florida and Binghamton. Bobby will be missed. We will miss his smile, his generosity, and his big heart. A private committal service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made in Robert's name to SPEAK Animal Hospital, 351 Flint Road, Binghamton NY 13905, or to your local animal shelter.
