Robert Cavalier

Elmira: Age 82, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 16, 2016. Bob was born in Fort Lee, NJ, the son of Anna (Capabianca) and Alfred Cavalier. He is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Alphonse and Nancy Cavalier. Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Caryl Heid Cavalier; children, Robert P. Cavalier of Elmira with his wife Michelle, and children, Bobby, Maddy and Jackson; William P. Cavalier of Syracuse with fiancée Christina Beechner; Molly C. Owens of Providence, RI with Matthew Barletta, and her son Alexander; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was a graduate of Regis High School in Manhattan. Continuing his education, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy from Fordham University, Master's Degree in Psychology from North Carolina State University, and his Ph.D in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Columbia University. His career took him from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, to Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ, to the American Bankers Association in Washington, DC, serving as Director of Education, to 31 years at Elmira College retiring as a Dana Professor Emeritus. A true renaissance man, Bob was a great thinker, published author, loved to write and paint, and enjoyed singing. His voice, his smile and the sound of his laugh brought warmth to those who knew him. A wonderful and devoted husband and father, and friend to all. He was known as "Pop" to the Cavalier grandchildren and "Bobby" to Alexander. He was an avid fan of the Yankees and Jets. Bob will be greatly missed. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street Elmira, NY on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1100 West Church Street, Elmira, NY. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
