Penfield NY formerly of Elmira Heights


Age 93, died in Rochester NY on Friday, December 2, 2022. Dick was born in Elmira, the son of Howard and Margaret Dacey Stuart. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Sue Ann Frawley Stuart and sister Patricia Stuart Salois. Dick is survived by his sons, Michael F. Stuart with Carol Fabrizio of Binghamton NY, Daniel H. Stuart and wife Theresa of Caton NY; daughters, Deborah M. Burke and husband Gregory of Atlanta GA, Sandra L. Hoodak and husband Anthony of Pittsford NY; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.


Dick was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a standout athlete at Thomas A. Edison High School. Dick was inducted into the Elmira Sports Hall of Fame for baseball and basketball as well at the Chemung County Sports Hall of Fame. He was also recognized for his more than 20 years of service with the NYS Baseball Umpires Association. Proud of giving back to his community Dick served as an Elmira Heights Village trustee. He worked at Facet Enterprises in Elmira Heights, retiring after 30 years of service. Before moving to the Rochester area, Dick had been a longtime communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Elmira Heights.


Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira, on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. Burial, with military honors, will take place at Bath National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Dick with a donation to Meals On Wheels, 409 William Street, Elmira NY 14901.
