Age 92, passed away, peacefully, at the home of his daughter, Karen, on Monday, November 30, 2015. Richard was born in Elmira, the son of Harry and Jessie (Mitchell) Hardy. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Jane (Bennett) Hardy and sister, Shirley Dickinson. Richard is survived by his children, Karen J. Hardy with Lynne Nemeth – Elmira, Richard W. Hardy, Jr. with wife Kathie – Hudson FL, Randy Hardy with wife Diana – Horseheads, Kathy Ostrander with husband Terry – Big Flats, Robert Hardy with Angela Hamal – Coxsackie NY, Tina Fudala with husband Nubby – Alpine NY, Cheri Murray with husband Dan - Pensacola FL; sister, Dorothy Terrace – Elmira; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and special friend Dotty Sauer. Richard was a U S Army Air Forces veteran. He served as a waist gunner on a B24 in Europe during WW II. After the war Richard worked as a machinist at Bendix in Elmira Heights for over 30 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always enjoyed time spent with his family. One or Richard's most cherished memories was the Honor Flight to Washington DC that he was privileged to be part of 3 years ago. Richard's family sends a special thank you to both Dr. Calderone and CareFirst for the wonderful care provided to their father. Services, with military honors, will take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery in the Spring of 2016.
