Richard J. Burdulis

October 28, 1939 — February 25, 2021

On February 25, 2021, Richard J. Burdulis, passed away at the age of 82. Richard was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was born on October 28, 1939 to Peter and Gertrude (Fey) Burdulis. He graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1957 and served in the US Army for 3 years. Richard was a ticket clerk for US Airways at the Elmira Corning Regional Airport for 34 years. He married the love of his life Patricia Ann (Ciarlo) Burdulis and they were blessed with two children, Peter and Caroline. Upon retirement he worked as a Pony Driver for the GST Boces Bush campus where he made many friends. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia; daughter Caroline (Patrick) Bonnell; granddaughters, Sophia and Samantha; brother Vincent Burdulis (Janet); sisters, Antoinette Crandell, Mary Fran Gonzalez (Damon), Agatha Schooler (JC); brothers-in-law, Frank Ciarlo, Louis Ciarlo, Sr. (Bonnie), Joseph Ciarlo; sister-in-law Theresa Fantone (Robert); along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Peter, mother Gertrude, sisters, Trudy Morgan and Patricia Lehnen, and son Peter. Richard loved to golf, read, study history, tell stories, and cheer on his granddaughters in their activities. Richard will be remembered as someone who had a very big heart, always ready to listen, laugh, and love. He had a true devotion to his faith and his family. He will be sorely missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Richard on Friday, March 5, 2021, 10:00 a.m., at St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 Broad Street, Horseheads. Covid protocol will be followed. Capacity at the church will be 150 people. Private burial will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. A reception in Richard's memory will be held at a time when it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you remember Richard by scheduling a mass in his name, or through a donation to the Foodbank of the Southern Tier, 388 Upper Oakwood Avenue, Elmira Heights NY 14903.
