Philomena Cantando

Age 92, passed away, peacefully, Thursday, August 25, 2016. Phil was born in Elmira in 1924, a daughter of Mary (Capozzi) and Nicholas Vendetti. She is predeceased by her husband of 49 years Dominic A. Cantando. Phil is survived by her children, and their families, Ronald D. and Roseanne Cantando of Elmira, and children, Gina (Jerry) Hess and Kara (James) Roach; Donald A. Cantando of Elmira, and daughters, Kelly (John Beuttenmuller) and Alexis; Mary and Michael Park of Horseheads, and sons, Zachary and Drew; Lucy and George "Bud" Kibbe of Millport, and son Philip (Terri Burkhead); seven great-grandchildren; sister Theresa Santarone of Horseheads; brother and sister-in-law Paul and Rosemary Vendetti of Horseheads; sisters-in-law Libby and Ann Cantando; brother-in-law Donald Hamilton; several nieces and nephews; special friend and shopping partner Vicki Emanuel. Phil was raised in "The Patch'. She took great pride in her Italian heritage An excellent cook, the smell of sauce always filled her home. Homemade ravioli and braciole were her specialties. Phil never drove, but would walk to downtown or catch a ride with anyone to shop. She loved socializing with family and friends. Her faith was instrumental in her life. Phil attended Mass and prayed the rosary as often as possible. At her request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial for Phil will be Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Elmira, all are invited. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Being a lifelong devout Catholic, those wishing may remember Phil by extending an act of kindness to someone. Flowers are gratefully declined.
