Age 70, passed away peacefully at home on May 29, 2025. He was born in Manhattan, New York, to the late Robert “Big Bob” and Jean Marie Johnson. Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 35 years, Brenda Leigh (Crom) Johnson.
He leaves behind his son, James Joseph Johnson, daughter-in-law-to-be, Megan Theresa Cibor; older brother, Robert, and sister-in-law, Ginny; and younger brother, Stephen, and sister-in-law, Kathleen. Peter is also survived by the family of his late wife, Brenda, including her father, J. Oliver Crom, and stepmother, Roslyn Crom; brother, Michael, and sister-in-law, Nancy Crom; sister, Marie, and brother-in-law, Robert Ringler; all his nieces and nephews; countless friends; and his extensive Kiwanis family.
Peter brought his dedication and good humor to every role he held—whether he was closing deals working Sales for Amtrak, connecting with customers at First Impressions, or keeping things running smoothly as Building Manager for Dale Carnegie & Associates, Inc. No matter the job, Peter had a way of turning workplaces into communities and coworkers into lifelong friends.
He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Northport on Long Island before retiring to Elmira, where he joined the Elmira Kiwanis Club and generously dedicated much of his time to service. Peter’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering kindness leave a legacy that lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Calling hours will be Monday, June 23, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, NY. A memorial service will follow on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., also at McInerny Funeral Home.
