Peggy Lyon

Big Flats: Age 70, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015. Peg was born in Elmira and grew up in Horseheads, a daughter of Jean Gelder McKee and the late Glenn Lyon. She is also predeceased by her sister Linda Sipe and brothers-in-law, Ray Wells and Jim Yost. In addition to her mother Peg is survived by life partner Pat Templeton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Joey Nelson of McArthur OH; Laurie Yost of Omaha NE; Ted Sipe of Muncy PA; along with several nieces, nephews and many good friends. Peg was a 34 year employee of the Elmira Star Gazette, retiring as Graphics Director at the age of 55 to spend more time pursuing her love of painting (oils, watercolors and pastels) and devote more time to her art studio. She won a Palette Award from the Arnot Art Museum for her work. Peg's paintings can be found all over the United States and abroad. She did not limit herself to graphics and painting. She also enjoyed golfing, kayaking, was a glider pilot, cooking…the more people she cooked for the better. She also had a love of cars earning her the nickname of "Piston Head". She was involved with road rallies and loved buying new cars! A real people person, Peg had a great sense of humor, was a "glass half full" person and loved to be around positive people. Peg will live on in her many paintings and cartoons. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Sunday, December 27, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 4:15 p.m. An animal lover, who always had a houseful of pets, those wishing may remember Peg with a donation to the Elmira SPCA, Route 352, Elmira NY 14903. A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Elcor for the loving care provided to Peg. Peg's favorite saying….."Why can't everyone be nice."
