Age 89, passed away at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Paul was born in Elmira, son of Joseph and Frances (Buczkowski) Seidel. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Seidel Jr. and grandson Mark Seidel. Paul is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Natalie (Sheahan) Seidel with whom he celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this past November 28th. Paul is also survived by son and daughter-in-law Paul E. Jr. and Caterina Seidel of Troutman NC with his daughter Stephanie; daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Christopher Shuman of Culpeper VA and children, Jennifer Lynn (Jeremy) Broy and Daniel Paul (Ava) Zaleski; great grandchildren, Ryan, Kellan, Kristen, Kayla, James and Cameron; along with several nieces and nephews.
Paul was a 1951 graduate of Elmira Free Academy where he was a standout athlete. He was a US Air Force Korean War Veteran. After his discharge from the Air Force, Paul worked briefly at Hardinge Inc before getting a call to work with the Elmira Fire Department. It was a job he loved and where he spent 36 years, retiring as Deputy Chief. While working at the fire department Paul was also an independent building contractor who built several commercial and residential properties along with remodeling/renovating others. Upon retirement Paul and Natalie enjoyed traveling. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. Paul served as the 9th District Chemung County Legislator for eight years.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Thursday, December 8, 2022, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Church on Friday, December 9, 2022, at 2:00 pm. Committal prayers and military honors will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
