Nicholas C. Derito

Nicholas C. Derito, age 86 of Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Elmira, NY, the son of Matthew and Julia (DeSocio) Derito.

In addition to his parents, Nick is also predeceased by brother, Anthony Derito; sister, Marianne Derito; and sister-in-law, Leonie Derito.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Pamela L. Derito; daughter, Nicola Dugger of Johnson City, TN; granddaughters, Brittni (Nick) Collins of Chuckey, TN and Casey Dugger of Johnson City, TN; great grandchildren, Parker and Tucker Collins of Chuckey, TN; brother, Joseph M. Derito of Elmira, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Derito successfully owned and operated Derito’s Barber Shop for 53 years. The barber shop was a gathering place where lively conversations took place with politicians, clergy, and friends. Nick was a very social man; he loved people, and he especially loved being around them all the time. He was a life member of the Elmira Elks Lodge #62 and a member of the American Legion Post #443 and the Chemung County Rod and Gun Club.

Family and friends are invited to Nick’s Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira, NY on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Burial, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery, 623 Franklin Street, Elmira, NY.
