Horseheads

Age 75, passed away peacefully at home with her husband John at her bedside on Monday, March 21, 2022 after several years of declining health due to dementia. Nancy was born in Elmira NY, a daughter of the late William F. and Lana Elizabeth "Betty" DeKay Chapin. She is survived by John, her husband of 50 years. She is also survived by son and daughter-in-law John W. and Amy Sutton of Minden NV with their sons, Matthew and Nathaniel; daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth C. and Michael Blasic of Elmira NY with their children, Adam Michael and Hannah Lynn; sister and brother-in-law Nedra and Robert McElroy of Bath NY; nephew Sean McElroy of Bath NY.

Nancy was a graduate of Southside High School and Corning Community College. She worked at LeValley McLeod for a short time before becoming a private secretary for the Director of Purchasing at Bendix Corp., and later she became an associate buyer at FACET Enterprises. After raising her two children Nancy worked part-time at Bethany Village as an Elder Care associate before securing a full-time position as a teaching assistant with the Horseheads Central School District. She was a loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Nancy always enjoyed helping people. That was evident in the jobs she chose throughout her working career.

Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St. Elmira, on Monday, March 28, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow the visitation. Committal prayers and interment will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads.
