Michael Larkin Murphy Elmira: Age 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family that he dearly loved, on Friday, March 27, 2015. Mike was born in Elmira on August 20, 1931, a son of Robert E. and Margaret (Larkin) Murphy. He is predeceased by his sister-in-law, Mary Frances Clancy and brother-in-law, Robert Lavarnway. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Janice McKevitt Murphy; children and their families, Michael and Nancy Murphy of Pine City, with daughter Joli Milks; Patricia "Missy" Murphy of Sterling Heights MI, with daughters, Jessica (Andrew) Matucheski and Katherine Stratton; Rick and Pamela Murphy of Elmira with sons, Jonathan (Jenny), Patrick (Allison) and Joseph; Matthew and Bridgid Murphy of Elmira with children, Sean, Colleen and Thomas; Mark and Theresa Murphy of Elmira with children, Ryan, Margaret and Claire; Maureen and Matthew Throumoulos of Webster NY with children, Michael, Morgan and Maddie; great grandchildren, Charlie, Alyssa, Nicholas and Emily; sisters and brother-in-law, Catherine Lavarnway of Elmira, Mary Ann and Jack Maywalt of Syracuse; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Barbara Murphy of Virginia; brother-in-law, Edward Clancy of Hornell; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was a U S Army veteran serving his country during the Korean War. After leaving the military he spent 3 years as a New York State Trooper. Mike left the troopers to start a 35 year career in the insurance field, retiring as a Senior Claims Adjuster. He loved being outdoors, was an avid hunter and an accomplished photographer. Mike and Janice enjoyed spending winters in Florida. He was a long time member and past president of the John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Mike loved spending time with his family. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira on Monday, March 30, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., St. Patrick's Church. Military honors will be accorded outside of the church immediately following the Mass. Private interment will take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery. Officers and members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians will meet at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, to conduct a service for our brother, Mike. signed, Jim Palmer, President.
