Mike, age 90, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Mike was born and raised in Elmira, a son of Michael A. and Catherine Noterfonzo Mandell. He is predeceased by his wife Joan, daughter Catherine Campbell, brothers and sister-in-law, Daniel and Rosalie Mandell, Richard Mandell, and sister Teresa Jung. Mike is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Archie Haner of Elmira, Deborah and John Petrisky of Archbald PA; son and daughter-in-law Michael J., Jr. and Deborah Mandell of Horseheads; sister-in-law Marion Burvee of Horseheads; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mike was a US Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. He retired from Kennedy Valve where he was a machinist and pattern maker. Mike loved bartending at Mandell’s Restaurant, Plaza Grill and the Elmira Elks Club. In his early years he bowled and coached baseball. Mike was a diehard Yankee fan and enjoyed spending time with family.
Family and friends are invited to call at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira. Interment with committal prayers and military honors, will then take place at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
