Mike, age 90, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Mike was born and raised in Elmira, a son of Michael A. and Catherine Noterfonzo Mandell. He is predeceased by his wife Joan, daughter Catherine Campbell, brothers and sister-in-law, Daniel and Rosalie Mandell, Richard Mandell, and sister Teresa Jung. Mike is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Archie Haner of Elmira, Deborah and John Petrisky of Archbald PA; son and daughter-in-law Michael J., Jr. and Deborah Mandell of Horseheads; sister-in-law Marion Burvee of Horseheads; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mike retired from Kennedy Valve where he was a machinist and pattern maker. He also was a bartender working at one time, or another, at Mandell’s Restaurant, the Plaza Grill, and Elmira Elks Club. In his early years he was an avid bowler and coached his daughter’s softball teams. Mike enjoyed baseball with the NY Yankees being his team. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially being with his grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to call at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira. Interment with committal prayers and military honors, will then take place at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
