Age 74, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, September 30, 2021. Mike was born on October 13, 1946, in Elmira, a son of the late Matthew and Gaetana Rossi Brookman. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Matthew Brookman and twin sister Mary Elizabeth Brookman. Mike is survived by his loving partner and companion of 32 years Sheila Griffin, with their children, Tana (John) Stilloe of Binghamton, NY, Michelle (Ken) Rought of Granbury, TX, Shelly Griffin (fiancé Corey Simpson), Carlietta (Marvin) Oglesby, Stanley "Jay" (Holly) Griffin, Samantha (Donald) O'Dell, and Abbie Griffin, all of Elmira; loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Glenda Brookman, and sister Anna Gaffney. Mike graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1965. He attended Corning Community College and served in the US Army from 1969-1974. He loved his work as a skilled craftsman. Mike's hobbies included spending time with his grandchildren, watching his Yankees and picnics at Taughannock Falls in Ithaca. A CEREMONY OF LIFE WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, JANURAY 8, 2022, AT THE BIG FLATS AMERICAN LEGION, 45 OLCOTT ROAD S., BIG FLATS. FRIENDS ARE WELCOMED AT 2:00 P.M. THERE WILL BE A SERVICE AT 3:00 P.M., FOLLOWED BY A RECEPTION. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, P O Box 10727, Rochester NY 14610.
