Mary Tranter

September 7, 1931 — June 29, 2014

age 82, of Sarasota, Florida and formerly of Elmira, NY went to be with her beloved Lord on Sunday, June 29, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Cyril and Ann Sanders. Surviving is her loving and devoted husband of 61 years G. Thomas Tranter, Sr. She is also survived by her loving children whom she was very proud of: G. Thomas (Elizabeth) Tranter, Jr., Gregory (Tracy) Tranter, M. Karen Tranter (Gregory Sommers), and Nancy (Stuart) Wright. She cherished her nine grandchildren: Michael (Sara) Tranter, Robert (Nicole) Tranter, Kelley (Joseph) Meade, Lauren Tranter, Matthew (Aubrey) Tranter, Victoria Wright, Joshua Sommers, Brittany Wright and Jackson Wright and four great-grandchildren: Ashleigh Meade, Joseph Meade V, Ellie Tranter and Meadow Tranter. Mary Ellen is also survived by three sisters: Jean Brunner, Joy Lajoie and Doris Kowalski. She was predeceased by brothers: Jack, Donald, and Robert Sanders and sister Chardelle Sanders. Mary Ellen was a graduate of Ohio University. She loved her family dearly and was a dedicated home maker. She was extremely active in her church both in Elmira and Siesta Key. She was committed to her community serving on various boards and organizations, such as: Food Bank of the Southern Tier, Catholic Charities, Chemung County Community Mental Health Services, Junior League, and Community Foundation of Elmira Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church 224 Franklin St. Elmira. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Mary Ellen's memory to: Food Bank of the Southern Tier 388 Upper Oakwood Ave. Elmira, NY, Catholic Charities 215 E. Church Street Elmira, NY 14901 or to the Community Foundation (Tranter Fund) 301 S. Main Street, Horseheads, NY. The family would like to thank Care First and give their heartfelt appreciation to caregivers Barb and Cynthia.
