Mary Kathryn Scanlin (Bombary), 94, of Elmira, New York, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love on February 3, 2026.
Born in Blossburg, PA, August 22, 1931, Mary Kay was the cherished daughter of the late Vincent and Martha (Lazeski) Bombary.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Frank Scanlin, with whom she shared a loving marriage rooted in family, faith, and community.
Mary Kay is survived by her four children J.V. Scanlin (Nancy), Jerry Scanlin (Dawn), Kate Bilbow (Bob), Patty Gibbons (Jay). Grandchildren Brodie Scanlin (Stephanie), Kyle Scanlin (Annie), Kelly Scanlin, Ryan Scanlin (Katie), John Patrick Scanlin, Michael Scanlin, Brianna Weaver (Mowgli), Bridget Gibbons, Megan Gibbons. Great grandchildren Jackson Scanlin, Connor Scanlin, Myles Scanlin, Graham Scanlin, Emory Scanlin, Stella Scanlin, Wyatt Scanlin, Reese Scanlin, Beckett Scanlin. Daughter-in-law Michele Ryan Scanlin. She was immensely proud of her family, extended family, and those she called family.
A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Mary Kay created a warm and welcoming home where love, kindness, and faith were at the heart of daily life. She cherished time spent with her family and delighted in the simple joys that brought them together. Mary Kay was also deeply committed to her community; she served for many years as a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Church, offering her time and compassion in service to others. She was a proud Member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. Fellowship, faith, and charitable work were central to who she was.
Services for Mary Kay will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The Ladies Division of the Hibernians will have a prayer service for Mary Kay at 10:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment, with committal prayers, will then take place at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
