The world changed 10/27/57 when a little red headed girl was born; she became the focus of all things because of that hair. Mare was a true pioneer not just she had red hair but because of her ability to persevere in spite of the many obstacles that she encountered.
As her husband was in the Air Force, she relocated from Elmira to Rome, NY, a place she had never been before. She managed to obtain an Associates Degree while raising 3 kids with her husband. She worked full time for NY State and eventually remarried the love of her life, Tom.
With 4 children and 2 grandchildren she forged ahead. She traveled from California to Vermont, Arizona to Poughkeepsie, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and Jamaica. She took busses, trains, planes (she hated flying) nothing got in her way. Finally, she traveled back to Elmira to stay. She sold her home, secured an apartment and began her new adventure. A daunting task for anyone.
She had her happy place in Reading Center Paradise Campground. She spent many joyful years there traveling to wineries, breweries and restaurants. She made many wonderful friends there, as a result of her never-ending golf cart rides, campfires, and treasured them all. The pride she took in her kids and grandchildren visits was unmatched.
Family and friends are invited to St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin St. Elmira on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
