Petzke, Sr., predeceased her on September 20, 2015. She is also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Francis B. and Florence Weingart, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and James Howland; in-laws, Frederick and Helena Petzke, and Fred Petzke, Jr.

Mary is survived by her sons and their spouses, John J., Jr. and Diane, Thomas and Dawn, Robert and Karen, Richard and Betsy; daughter and son-in-law Mary and Pete Rocchi; grandchildren, John III (Leslie), Danielle (Chad), Paul (Kristy), Pamela, Robert, Alex, Sara and Chris (fiancée Lauryn Kobbe); great-grandchildren, Isabella, Daniel, Luke, Kimberly, Aubrey and Samantha; along with several step grand and great- grandchildren.

Mary was a graduate of Elmira Catholic High School in 1943, enjoying the friendship of several of her classmates. Prior to her marriage she was employed at Ward LaFrance and Edgecomb’s Furniture. In later years she worked at St. Casimir’s Church, where she was the secretary. As her boys were growing up, she was active in the Cub Scouts as a den mother. Mary loved to entertain and hosted almost all holiday gatherings. No visitor left the house hungry as there were always plenty of homemade goodies to pass around! Mary also enjoyed a good game of Scrabble, Pinochle, Bridge or Rummy, with family or friends. And you never saw her without a smile on her face!

Family and friends are invited to call at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W Water Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m., St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira.
