Mary Mann

Passed away peacefully at her home in Barrington NY on Saturday, December 9, 2017, after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Sidney, children, Ethan Mann of Elmira, Francesca Paladino of Charlotte NC, Dr. Kent Meiswinkel of Newark CA; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Born in Elmira, Mary graduated from Elmira College. She continued her graduate studies at Cornell and Syracuse University. Mary's 35 year career as a teacher and administrator took her to Cheektowaga, Rochester, Syracuse and Elmira. She was active in community affairs being instrumental in the formation of the Near Westside Historical District, serving on the Elmira Board of Education from 1992-96, serving on the Elmira Planning Board, the Democratic Party in Chemung County, and later in Yates County, and was a member of the Town of Barrington Planning Board. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mary enjoyed Historic Preservation, cooking, gardening, and politics. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira.
