Mary Maio

February 10, 1918 — August 30, 2014

Elmira: Age 96, passed away at the Chemung County Nursing Facility on Saturday, August 30, 2014. Mary was born on February 10, 1918, a daughter of Thomas and Maryanna (Carrescia) Caroscio. She is predeceased by her husband Anthony Maio, son, Joseph Maio, sister and brother- in-law, Lena and John Cherkis, brothers and sister-in-law, William Caroscio, Victor and Mary (Lochern) Caroscio. Mary is survived by her grandchildren, Anthony Maio, Joseph Maio, John Maio, with fiancée Heather Dean; great grandchildren, Evalynn and Roman; daughter-in-law, Terry (Mirando) Maio, sister, Dorene Novick; sisters-in-law, Edith Caroscio, all of Elmira, and Katherine Ellison of Corning; along with several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Mary belonged to the Sacred Heart Ladies Society and was a long time communicant of St. Anthony's Church. Family and friends are invited to Mary's Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday September 3, 2014 at Ss. Peter & Paul Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Mary's family would like to thank her caregivers, especially Becky Hoffman, and the staff of the Chemung Nursing Facility for the care Mary received. In lieu of flowers those wishing may remember Mary with a donation to St Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105.
