Mary Joseph

"Mamie" Age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Mamie was the oldest of nine children born to Thomas and Ellen (Speers) Aitchison. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years George Joseph, daughter Kathleen M. Onofre, and six of her siblings. Mamie is survived by her children, with their families, John T. and Karon Joseph of Benson NC with children, George E. (Shannon) Joseph and Alex B. (fiancée Rachael Carande) Joseph; Jeanette E. and Joseph Capece of Elmira; son-in-law Nicholas A. Onofre of Waverly with his and Kathleen's son Christopher M. Onofre; great grandchildren, Eli and Loralye Joseph; sister Helen Batrowny of Elmira; brother and sister-in-law William and Kay Aitchison of Scotland; along with several nieces and nephews. Mamie was born and raised in Scotland. She met her husband George in London during WWII. Mamie came to the United States in 1946 aboard the Queen Mary. She loved to bake and cook. Mamie was the greatest example her family ever had of simple faith, unconditional love and devotion to her family and friends. She was a strong, yet humble woman. Her family will forever cherish her memory and hold her close in their hearts. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. Those wishing may make a donation to a charity of their choice in Mamie's memory. The Joseph family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care provided to their mother by Dr. Roberto Mauri, Stephanie Busch, PA, the entire staff at Southport Internal Medicine, the 4B nursing staff at AOMC , and from Guthrie Cardiology in Sayre, Dr. Daniel Sporn and Jennifer Hughey, CNP. Also to Micki Seymour, Donna McHenry, and Tammy Payne for their excellent care given to Mamie over the past several years.
