Martin Carl Meade, age 79, of McLean, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at August Healthcare at Leewood in Annandale, VA. Marty was born in Elmira, NY, son of the late Mortimer and Mary (Schiefen) Meade, and predeceased by sister Donna Meade Qualey and brothers, Michael Meade and Matthew Meade. Marty is survived by daughter Kelly Meade, with husband Emile Khoury, of Annandale, VA; son Todd Meade, with wife Monica Meade, of Chantilly, VA and their children, Adam Spicer, Mackenzie Bell, and Henry Meade; brother Daniel Meade, with wife Karen Meade of Big Flats, NY, former wife and friend Carol Lepere, of McLean, VA; sister-in-law Sheila Meade, of Schenectady NY; brother-in-law James Qualey, with wife Terri of Murrells Inlet, SC; aunt Regina Dean of Elmira, NY, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Marty was a 1964 graduate of Southside High School in Elmira and attended Villanova University on a Navy ROTC scholarship. Upon graduation in 1968, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy, embarking on a 21-year career, first in communications, then, after graduating flight school, as a helicopter pilot, (call-sign “Goldenboy”) hunting for Soviet submarines, before finishing his career at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. While in the military, Marty earned his MBA from Boston University. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander and began a second career as a Government Contractor with the US Department of Energy.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira on Monday, July 7, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A prayer service will be held there on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 9:15 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers and military honors, will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
