Marie Schiefen Treat Elmira: Passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Marie was born in Montour Falls, one of 13 children of Carl F. and Mary (Dunn) Schiefen. She is predeceased by her husband Ralph Irving Treat. Marie is survived by her sister Regina Dean of Elmira; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Cornelia Schiefen of Elmira, Charles and Donna Schiefen of Pine City; brother-in-law Harry Backer of Elmira; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was also predeceased by siblings and their spouses, Carl "Buddy" Schiefen, Larry and Florence Schiefen, William and Theresa Schiefen, Marjorie and Alfred Faella, Eleanor and Cyril "Butch" Moran, Helen Theresa Schiefen, Wanetta "Toddy" and Mortimer Meade, Mary Evelyn "Polly" Backer, Rita and Robert Langdon; brother-in-law Edward Dean. Marie was a longtime employee of Remington Rand. Upon her retirement she went to work with her husband Irving as co-owners of the American Hotel on W. Third Street. They continued to run the American Hotel until Irving's death in 2005. Marie was the type of person who always liked to keep busy and in her spare time she enjoyed crocheting. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Streets, on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations in memory of Marie may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or a charity of one's choice.
