Maria T. Scrimale

Horseheads:  Age 62, passed away unexpectedly after a long battle with diabetes, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.  Maria was born and raised in Elmira, a daughter of Patricia Ganascioli and the late Richard Ganascioli.  She is also predeceased by her sister Lisa Ganascioli.  Maria is survived by her loving husband of 30 years Paul J. Scrimale of Horseheads; nieces, Vanessa Ganascioli-Riley, Shelby Ganascioli-Riley and Maya Travis; nephew Joseph Palumbo; brothers-in-law, Tom Scrimale and Joe Palumbo; many relatives and friends; and her cats, Petunia and Endora.

Maria was a 1981 graduate of Elmira Free Academy.  She continued her education at Elmira College, where she earned her Master’s Degree.  Maria worked for several years at the Immaculate Conception School in Ithaca.  A very loving and caring person, Maria’s greatest pleasure in life was teaching.

Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W Water Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Maria’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, 10:00 a.m., at St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 W. Broad Street, Horseheads.
