Margaret Emmick, at the age of 92, passed away peacefully at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester on Saturday, August 16, 2025 surrounded by family members and engulfed in love and prayers from those both near and far. When Margaret took her last breath, she was the Matriarch of a family tree that had many bountiful branches.
Margaret was born in Elmira, NY on September 2, 1932 to parents Nick and Minnie (Bodewes) Frisk. As a little girl, her family moved to Washington, D.C. for work during the Great Depression. They later returned to Elmira after World War II. Margaret is predeceased by her siblings, Raymond, Bill, and Mary. Her brother Jim currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
Margaret’s legacy is her family which originated for her with her two biological children: son Marty Emmick (wife Lauren, child Lian) and daughter Faye Menio (husband Mark, children Danielle, Mychal, and Jenelle). As a single working mother, Margaret was a hairdresser at Bailey’s Beauty Shop in Elmira. In 1970, she met Charles Emmick, and in 1972, Margaret’s family lineage evolved when she married Charley and became stepmom to Charley’s four biological children: son William Emmick (wife Connie, children Lori and Michelle), daughters, Jackie Richmond (husband Phil, children Paul, Carrie, and Krissy), Debi Batrowny (children Jason, Kelley, and Lindsay), and Kim Mather (husband Andrew, children Alexa, Spencer, and Isaac). In 1974, Charley adopted Faye and Marty as his own. As of today, the Emmick family tree stands at 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. In addition, Margaret has many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Charley and Margaret loved to travel, traveling internationally for work, taking several bus trips across the U.S, and venturing to see family yearly in places like Maine (Margaret loved the ocean) and the Adirondacks. Margaret instilled a love of nature to many with her frequent trips to N.Y State parks. Not only did Charley and Margaret spend much of their leisure time together, they worked together as well. Margaret was a salesperson at Emmick Realty. The two were happily married for 37 years before Charley passed away with Alzheimer’s in 2009. Margaret was a devoted wife until the very end. As life went on for Margaret, she continued to travel to visit family in locations such as Virginia, Florida, Penn Yan, Maine, and Massachusetts. Through it all, she remained at the center of the family’s home on Grove Street, hosting family get togethers where food, swimming, and laughter were abundant.
Margaret was also a devout Christian, enjoyed sewing for friends and family, loved to swim in the family pool and taught many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren how to swim and dive.
With the passing of our revered matriarch, the steady hand and heart of our family was called to eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to grow and echo through generations. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was present from the beginning. Her presence will be deeply missed as her joy and gratitude for life was infectious and radiated to all those around her.
