Margaret Bennett

Age 85, of Elmira, NY, passed away on August 21, 2018 in Rochester, NY. Margaret was born in Elmira to Joseph and Margaret (Zaback) Fischer on May 19, 1933. She was a 1951 Elmira Free Academy graduate. Margaret worked at Westinghouse where she met her husband of 63 years, Emory. She was a homemaker who loved to golf and entertain family and friends. Despite moving around the country with Emory, she made friends everywhere she went. Active in the community Margaret was proud to have served as a Board member for the American Cancer Society, as a Reach to Recovery Co-Chairperson, as a Breast Cancer Support Group Co-Facilitator. She was a St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary Board member and treasurer. Margaret also enjoyed volunteering in a variety of capacities for the LPGA Corning Classic for many years. Margaret is survived by her husband Emory, her four daughters, Mary Sue Bennett (Marilyn Marino) of Rochester, Cynthia Bennett of Maryland, Julie McInerny of Elmira, and Karen Anger (Anthony) of Arizona; honorary daughters, Colleen LaDelia of Elmira and Carol Wilson-Robbins of Maryland; sister Dorothy Hughes of Elmira; sisters-in-law, Blanche Hoffman of Florida, Evelyn Atillio of Tennessee and Rowena Campbell of Elmira. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Maribeth Robinson Aquilina of Rochester, Meaghan Rodeck (Nick) of Arizona, Joseph McInerny (Mariah) of Corning, Bryan Anger (Britny), Justin Anger, and Margaret Anger of Arizona; great-grandchildren, Aubriella Moretz of Corning, Liam Rodeck of Arizona, and a great-granddaughter due in January. Margaret is predeceased by siblings, Richard (Millie) Fischer, Elizabeth (Jim) Arndt, and Robert Fischer, grandson Anthony Aquilina, and special aunt, Agnes Zaback. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 12:15 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m., Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1100 W. Church Street, Elmira. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Rochester Presbyterian Home and to Visiting Nurse Hospice. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech Street, Johnson City NY 13790, in honor of Margaret's work with the Reach to Recovery program, Rochester Presbyterian Home, 256 Thurston Road, Rochester NY 14619, or the Chemung County SPCA, 2435 State Route 352, Elmira NY 14903.
