Lillian L. Hires Horseheads: Age 97, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at her home in Appleridge. Lillian was born September 27, 1913, a daughter of William and Helen (Colson) Lawrence. She is predeceased by her husband John A. Hires. Lillian is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jane H. and John F. Cadwallader of Elmira and Clearwater FL; daughter Barbara L. Hires, with Connie McKelvey of Wilmington DE; sister and brother-in-law Helen and John Whitaker of Clearwater FL; grandchildren, John F. Cadwallader, Jr. with wife W. Blair Jennings, J.A. Hires Cadwallader, with wife Kristina, all of Elmira, Shane Hires McKelvey, and Jessica Hires McKelvey, both of Wilmington DE; great grandchildren, Eli, Emma, Asa, and Lillian Cadwallader and Colson Hires Cadwallader; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The essence of Lillian's life was her family. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. In that spirit she always returned the favor of an invitation with the gift of her presence. Lillian enjoyed games, especially golf, which she played until the age of 90. She and her husband had lived in Wilmington DE for a number of years before moving to Clearwater FL, where she lived for 30 years. Lillian moved to the Elmira/Horseheads area 10 years ago. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Quaker service will follow at 2:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 E. Corning Road, Corning NY 14830. Lillian's family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Appleridge for the wonderful care provided to her over the past 15 months.
