Laurence Hanley

Age 57, passed away on Saturday February 4, 2017 suddenly at home. Larry was born October 6, 1959 in Elmira, a son to Joseph Hanley and the late Harriett "Babs" Fitzpatrick Hanley. He was predeceased by his sister Joann Hanley. He is survived by his loving and adoring wife of 34 years, Mary Ellen (Barnic) Hanley "Mimi"; his canine companion Riley; Larry enjoyed his big Irish Catholic family, including, Ann Marie Barnic, Coleen and Donald Hicks, Patsy and Rodney McGinnis, Christopher and Karen Barnic, Terrie and Paul Dimmick, Bridget and Michael Hallinan, Kathleen and David Kimiecik, a multitude of adorning nieces and nephews. Larry graduated from Notre Dame High School and Erie Community College. He was employed with Walmart as a licensed Optician. Larry was an all-around people person and could strike up a conversation easily. Drawing attention from those around him while wearing his Red Sox cap and his signature ponytail. He had an uncanny knowledge of all things sports. He rarely missed a shot whether it was a swing of a golf club, a hit of a bat, shot of a pool stick, or a bowling strike. His sporting friends called him "Mr. Natural". His love of muscle cars was apparent, he owned several in his life time. The thunder of the 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner announced his arrival. Music, laughter and his hilarious antics brought joy to all. He will be missed dearly and will be in our hearts forever. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., St. Casimir's Church, Elmira. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Larry's memory can be made to the Chemung County SPCA 2435 NY-352 Elmira, NY 14903.
