Kathy L. Smith

Age 61, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 31, 2022 after a courageous 10-year battle with breast cancer. Kathy was born in Elmira, daughter of the late George and Shirley Green Snowburg. She was also predeceased by son Brandon A. Smith; infant brother Tim Snowburg; sister-in-law Ethel Jean Smith Schrader and brother-in-law Andy Smith. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Earl H. Smith. Kathy is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Keith Stewart of Pine City, Patricia and Steve Scott of Dover DE; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Karna and Mark O'Herron of Elmira; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kathy grew up on Snowburg Dairy Farm on the top of Mount Zoar Hill. She was the Chemung County Dairy Princess of 1978. Kathy was also a 1978 graduate of Elmira Free Academy. She earned a degree as a licensed practical nurse at BOCES, an Associate Degree in Applied Science and a certificate of completion in Data Processing Studies, both from Corning Community College. Kathy started her health care career working as an LPN at St. Joseph's Hospital before working her way up through management, retiring from the Arnot Ogden Medical Center as the HIM Clinical Supervisor in 2020. She enjoyed gardening, antiquing, auctions, tractor shows, fairs, riding her four-wheeler and cooking big meals. She always looked forward to cooking Christmas dinner.

Family and friends are invited to call at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. Committal prayers and interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Caton NY. Those wishing may remember Kathy with a donation to the Falck Cancer Center, 600 Roe Ave., Elmira NY 14905. Kathy would want to offer a special thanks to niece and nephew Jocelyn and Joe Moglia for the wonderful care and support they had provided to her over the last several years.
