Kathleen A. Fennell

November 18, 1929 — February 11, 2022

Kathleen A. “Sis” Fennell, Elmira/Horseheads, age 92, passed away peacefully at home Friday, February 11, 2022.

Sis was born in Elmira, the daughter of Matthias A. and Catherine F. (Shields) Fennell. She was a lifelong communicant of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, and attended Ss. Peter & Paul’s School, Elmira Catholic High, and Elmira College. Sis retired from Westinghouse Electric in 1983 after 35 years of service.

She loved to travel with her friends, especially trips to her father’s birthplace in County Clare, Ireland, near the Bridges of Ross. Sis also spent many hours volunteering at Ss. Peter & Paul Parish, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chemung County Red Cross, and the Ladies Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Msgr. John J. Lee Division, where she was a charter member.

She is survived by her brother J. Peter Fennell of Elmira. A brother, Matthias F. “Matt” Fennell, and sisters-in-law, Ann Fennell and Susan Fennell died before her. She is also survived by nieces, Ann Simmons, Molly Manchenton, Julie Smykowski, Sheila Castellano, Kathleen Carlson, Ellen Ordaz and Alice Hongthong; nephews J. Peter Fennell Jr., Matthias F. Fennell Jr., Martin Fennell, Tim Fennell, Tom Fennell, and Terry Fennell; many grand nieces and grand nephews, to whom she was “Aunt Sissy.”

Special thanks to Debbie Fennell, who spent hundreds of hours with Sis during the last several months.
