"PaPa Joe" Age 91, Elmira, NY, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Joe was born October 10, 1924, in Endwell, NY son of the late Carl and Evelyn Dunn Schiefen. He was the middle child of 13 children. In addition to his parents Joe was predeceased by his first wife Emma Lou Mittelstadt Schiefen and infant daughter Catherine. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Cornelia “Corky” Supple Schiefen; his children, Mary Ellen and Randy Avery of Mooresville, NC, Joseph J. and Victoria Schiefen Jr. of Mooresville, NC, Sharon and Larry Clark of Montour Falls, NY, Barbara and David Sweet of Horseheads, NY, Carl and Maren Schiefen of Big Flats, NY, James Schiefen of Painted Post, NY, Charles and Kelly Schiefen of Catawba, NC, step-children, Marcella and Dennis Backer, and Christopher and Katharine DeSocio of Genoa, NV; 23 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother, Charles and Donna Schiefen, sister, Regina Dean; numerous, nieces and nephews. Joe served his country faithfully and honorably with the US Army in the 36th Infantry Division during WWII. He retired as a master plumber with the Local Union 267. He was known to his family as “PaPa Joe”. Family and friends may call at the McInerny Funeral Home, 502 West Water Street, Elmira, NY on Sunday November 1, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home, on Monday November 2, 2015 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St Mary’s Church, Elmira.
