Age 92, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024 at the Church of Christ Care Center in Clinton, Michigan. Joseph was born in Elmira, son of the late Joseph F. Riley, Jr., and Elizabeth “Betty” Klebert. He is also predeceased by his wife Virginia “Ginny” Riley, (nee Silbaugh).
Joseph attended Colorado State University and later served in the United States Navy aboard the USS SIBONEY (CVE-112) during the Korean War. He remained an active member of the Third Naval District Reserve in Elmira for many years after the war.
Joseph had a long tenure as a Senior Accountant for General Motors (GM) Corporation. He began his career at GM in New York, then moved to the GM headquarters in Warren, Michigan, where he retired.
Joseph was a true sports enthusiast, enjoying baseball, football, and golf. He was especially fond of the General Motors golf leagues.
Family and friends are invited to call at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W Water Street, Elmira, on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joe on Thursday, March 21, 2024, 10:00 a.m., St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira. Interment with military honors and committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
