Joe, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Joe was born in Elmira, a son of the late Carmine and Maria Novellino Mucci. In addition to his parents Joe is predeceased by son Michael; daughter Annette; siblings, Philomena D’Ambrosio, Vincent Mucci, JoAnne Rohlin and twin stillborn sisters. Joe is survived by his loving wife Irene Homerda Mucci; daughters, Mary Jo Chamberlain and Christina Mucci (fiancé Gary Martin); son Mark Mucci; grandchildren Michael Mucci (fiancée Meagan Darby), Alicia LeCompte (Doug), Brittany Mucci (fiancée Larissa Crocco), Calvin Mayo, Katarina Martin; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Joe was a US Marine Corporal serving during the Korean War. He retired as a machinist from Hardinge Inc. in 1996 with 35 years of service. He was a devout Catholic, having been a long-time active communicant of St. Anthony’s Church until its closing and presently a communicant of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish. Joe was active in the community as a long-time volunteer for the Arctic League, serving meals at the Community Kitchen on High St., volunteering at the annual St. Anthony’s Parish festival and later the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish festival. He was a fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. Joe was a member of the Hardinge Inc. Golf League and the Hardinge’s Men’s League. He and Irene enjoyed the 25 years they spent as snowbirds in Myrtle Beach. They also enjoyed traveling to Georgia and Florida with family and friends. Joe’s greatest joy was his family and the many wonderful times spent with them. He will be forever loved and missed.

Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon with military honors to be accorded to Joe at the end of the service. Burial will be at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery at a later date.

The Mucci family would like to offer their special thanks to the Arnot Ogden 3B staff, the staff at the Bath VA, Dr. Mauri, Stephanie Busch, the CCNF 6th floor staff and Gary for his late-night milkshake runs – “nectar of the gods”. Also, thank you to the Women’s Auxiliary of the Horseheads American Legion Post #442 for the beautiful Quilt of Valor that Joe received from them.
