John Wakefield

Age 88, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 26, 2015. John was born on February 5, 1927 a son of Archibald and Anna (Rhode) Wakefield. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Irene Hayduk Wakefield; daughter Kathy Wakefield; brother Daniel Wakefield; sisters, Marie Burlew and Helen McConnell. John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janette M. and David Weaver of Roanoke VA; son and daughter-in-law, John E., Jr. and Sheila Wakefield of Elmira; grandchildren, Jennifer Pacheco, David (Rhonada) Weaver, Mary Elizabeth (Alex) Dove, Ann Weaver, Kara (Patrick) McInerny, Ryan Fletcher and Alex Wakefield; great grandchildren, Wyatt Dove, Aubrey and Callan McInerny. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. John was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He had worked as a welder at American Bridge for 38 years. John went on to work at Winchester Optical for another 25 years before retiring at the age of 85. At John's request, private services will be held.
