John J. Roth, Jr.

Age 87, passed away peacefully at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Jay was born in Elmira, a son of John J. and Helen (Nemitz) Roth. He is survived by his wife Linda Davis Roth; daughters, Diane Savino of Painted Post NY and Catherine “Cathy” Collins of Baldwinsville NY; grandson Mason Collins of Brooklyn NY; brother and sister-in-law Eugene and Bernadette Roth Freemont CA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Rick and Pat Davis , Alan and Sue Davis, and Joan Reppert. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Jay is predeceased by his sons-in-law, Thomas Collins and Dennis Savino.

Jay was a US Air Force veteran serving from 1956 to 1960. He had retired from Bendix Corp. with 34 years of service. After retirement Jay and Linda moved to Florida where they lived for 21 years before moving back to the Elmira/Horseheads area in 2018. Jay was “a car guy” and belonged to the Southern Tier Corvette Club for many years. In earlier years Jay enjoyed golfing locally at the Mark Twain Golf Course, and in Florida during his years there.

Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, NY on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. Military honors will be accorded Jay at the conclusion of the funeral service. Private inurnment will take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery Columbarium.
