Age 96, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. John was born in Elmira, son of Frank and Rose Dandrea Pirozzolo. He was predeceased by brother Joseph Pirozzolo; sisters, Connie Pirozzolo, Josephine Mills, Mary Sasano, Theresa Hurley, Rosemary Perschbacher and Jean Hurley. John is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Antoinette Altilio Pirozzolo; sons with their families, Fran and Priscilla Pirozzolo of Houston TX with their sons John (Bradie) Pirozzolo and Joe (Marisol) Pirozzolo … Tom Pirozzolo of Elmira with his daughters Niki (Won) Frierson and Ann Pirozzolo (Ron Vosburg) …. Michael Pirozzolo of Elmira … Ron and Susie Pirozzolo of Big Flats with children Jason Pirozzolo (Savara Hastings), Brian Pirozzolo (Sarah Vallely), Andy Pirozzolo and Jen (Alex) Spicola … Mark Pirozzolo of Houston TX; 14 great grandchildren; sister Frances Bechard of Liverpool NY; brother and sister-in-aw, Richard and Joyce Pirozzolo of Horseheads' brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gerald and Jan Altilio of Big Flats; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. John was a US Navy WW II veteran and served in the Asiatic Pacific, European and American Theatres during the war. He was called to service again and served for two more years during the Korean War. John served as a City of Elmira Police Officer for 33 years. During his time on the police force John also worked as a paramedic with Erway Ambulance for 25 years. He was a longtime member of the IAV Club and the Elmira American Legion. John was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony's Church where he was active with Sacred Heart Men's Club and a faithful volunteer of the parish festival. He was an avid New York Yankee fan who liked to coach the team from his chair. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 West Water St. Elmira, on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic). Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
