Elmira: Age 84, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. John was born in Elmira, September 20, 1928, son of Alice (Cook) and John M. Pabis, Sr. He is predeceased by his wife Congetta Pirozzolo Pabis, daughter Charlene Pabis and sister Mary Pabis Resavage. John is survived by his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan Pirozzolo, Blanche and James Pirozzolo, many nieces and nephews, all of whom took great care of John, and his beloved canine companion "ChiChi". John was a member of the United States National Guard for many years. A butcher, John worked for several years at the Mohawk Market before going to work for Super Duper from where he retired. John was an active communicant at St. Anthony's Church until its closing. Every year, for 45 years, John could be found helping out at the St. Anthony's Festival. Although he was of Polish descent, John was the "King of Italian Sausage", proudly passing his "secrets" on to his nephews. He was a life time member of the Italian American Veterans Club. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. John's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember John with a donation to Blessed Sacrament Parish, 1010 Davis Street, Elmira NY 14901.
