Doting Husband of 54 years, Beloved Father of four, adoring Grandfather of four, passed away on July 19, 2026 following a difficult and debilitating illness. John was an Educator, a cinema projectionist, a carpenter, an antique car enthusiast/restorer (longtime member of the NASH Car Club), a motor-boater & water-skier extraordinaire, a 59-year member in good standing of the IATSE Local 289, and a Brother Hibernian.

And, a life-long member of the Elmira Health Club, running and weight-lifting were an important part of his daily life for decades until the illness took over.

John received his Associates from SUNY Cobleskill, his Bachelor's degree from Kent State University in Ohio and his Master's Degree in Education from Elmira College.

He is pre-deceased by his parents, John R. & Rosemary. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen E. (Tyrrell); his children, Julia K. (Husband Brad Tuttle), Timothy R., Patrick D. (Wife Lauren Brown, daughters Kalin & Reagan) and Kathleen M. (Husband Adam Doyle, sons Declan & Cormac); brother, Thomas P. (wife Cynthia), and sister Mary Ellen A. (Morgan); many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A life-long parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Elmira, NY, John lived a life of compassion and service, and embodied the Hibernian ethos of friendship, unity and Christian charity.

Family and friends are invited to St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Pl. Elmira on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 9:30-10:15am. The Hibernians will have a prayer service beginning at 10:15am and a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
